Our Inspector's Highlights
• Willow Stream Spa’s philosophy is to reflect the ambience of its surroundings, and each of its spas (found throughout the world in Fairmont hotels) is different and unique to its location.
• A visit to the Fairmont Peace Hotel conjures up the glamorous 1930s and the restoration of the historic property, which was built in 1929, is elegant and detailed.
• Upon arrival to the gorgeous space, you’ll be invited to sit on an ornate four-sided couch, sip tea and choose your spa treatment.
• The calming, muted color palette (cream-colored walls, a dark green sofa) was designed to soothe and relax, and many modern interpretations of the hotel’s Art Deco elements are found here.
• Glass-fronted dark wood cabinets display the high-quality spa products that are for sale.
Things to Know
• If you’re longing for a spa treatment but can’t bear to leave the comfort of your hotel room, a therapist may be able to come to you instead.
• A handful of the hotel’s standard rooms in the historic 1929 building are not large enough for a massage bed and not all of the services on the expansive Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa’s menu are available in-room.
• Let the spa know if you have a preference in your therapist’s gender and they will be more than happy to accommodate you.
• All facilities are available both before and after spa treatments, so walk through at your own pace.
The Treatments
• The Willow Stream Wisdom treatment features a mixture of treatments for hydrated skin, including a foot ritual, body scrub (made locally with blue lotus, poppy seed and Sichuan pepper), a temple massage and body-milk application.
• Pure botanical extracts and high-grade essential oils are used to address your individual needs in the Peace Aroma facial. The plant extracts are meant to hydrate depleted skin and bring it back into pH balance.
• Hair and skin both get a boost with the Radiance Revealed treatment — you’ll receive an ultra-moisturizing body wrap (using moor mud), a scalp massage and an intense hair treatment featuring goji-berry oil.
• Crossing time zones can wreak havoc on your body’s natural rhythms and the Peace and Quiet massage aims to bring you to a state of relaxation for optimal sleeping. It starts with a warm foot ritual and is followed by a full body massage using the calming essential oils of vetiver, chamomile and sandalwood.
• We’ve never experienced a service quite like the Paris of the East treatment, which features two therapists simultaneously performing the Urban Lightening facial (an illuminating facial using skin brighteners) and the Remedial Reflexology (which restores equilibrium through a foot reflex massage).
The Facilities
• The locker rooms are expansive and just as elegant as the rest of the charming spa. The oval vanity mirrors reflect into each other to charming effect, and a slew of hair products and styling tools sits beneath them.
• A blue mosaic-tiled steam room and spacious showers are located in the locker room, and the spa suggests taking advantage of one or both of these luxe amenities before a treatment to help warm up muscles and detoxify skin.
• Head to the ice fountain to rub ice on your body, or take a dip in the invigorating sky-lit pool to bring your body’s temperature back to normal before your treatment.
• The spacious rooms have marble floors and include several water closets, rainforest experience showers, individual lockers and a blue mosaic-tiled steam room.
• Another luxe area is the dry relaxation lounge in which to wait for your therapist before your service or to relax in afterward. The room is richly decorated with dark wood walls, a half-dozen lounge chairs and deep red-toned accents.
