Situated on the fifth floor of the new Alila Shanghai, Spa Alila starts soothing the senses on arrival to create a serene sanctuary in the heart of the city. A water feature helps reduce stress, while touches of wood enhance a subdued but sophisticated décor that resonates throughout the property.

Spa goers await their treatments in the welcoming lounge where warm timbers are matched with green accents, soft lighting and birdsongs, while the spa’s signature scents, crafted from the world’s finest essential oils permeate the air, ease guests into a tranquil state even before the first hands are laid on them.

Our Inspector's Highlights

A multi-sensory experience that’s initiated in the spa’s reception area continues with many of the treatments, including a number of services that incorporate the resonant vibrations of Tibetan singing bowls.
Treatments draw from all-natural elements and employ herbs freshly picked from the onsite organic garden. Guests can even do their own plucking.
There are five themed treatment rooms, three for individuals and two for couples. Each room is named after a healing plant such as sandalwood and juniper. With wood paneling and light steaming in through shoji-screened windows, the spaces have an earthy feel about them.
The services are grounded in the healing wisdom of ancient Chinese philosophies. This philosophy not only helps rejuvenate guests, but it also immerses them in local culture and creates a deeper connection with Shanghai.
Situated on the same floor as the spa is the 20-meter infinity pool, hydrotherapy pool and a wet sauna. There is also a fully equipped gym and yoga area with a view of the herb garden.

The Treatments

There are three 90-minute signature experiences at Spa Alila. With The Alila Signature Massage, you pick your own herbs from the garden and experience a soothing foot bath and guided meditation. For the Thereal Zen Wood Therapy, you’re calmed with a Rain Bamboo ritual that helps the body prepare for a rejuvenating deep-tissue massage. And then there’s a facial experience that’s customized to meet clients’ individual needs.
The aim of The Midnight Stone Experience is to leave the body in a Zen-like state of calm. Sound therapy starts the 90-minute journey before enveloping the body in nourishing almond oil and pampering with a warm stone treatment. An aromatic massage concludes the indulgence.
A gentle flower ceremony eases guests into the Chakra Energy Healing. The chakra-aligning aromatherapy session uses Tibetan singing bowls and concludes with a restorative eaglewood oil massage.
Tibetan singing bowls also form the central part of the Group Singing Bowl experience. The aim is to promote a spirit of unity (for up to six guests) while amplifying the healing power of sound therapy. Starting with a hand cleansing, the group breathes calming aromas before being enveloped with the bowl’s vibrations. After a soothing herbal tea, the collective feels awakened and energized.
