Madeline Hotel and Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection

A ski village's colorful centerpiece
VERIFIED LUXURY
Madeline Hotel and Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection is in the ski village of Telluride and sits practically at the base of the lift. It offers a prime location whether you want to ski (with the help of the property's slopeside ski valet), dog sled or ice skate in the winter or go fly fishing, mountain biking and hiking in the summer.

When you aren't on the slopes, retreat to this alpine haven. The newly renovated 83-room and 71-residence hotel looks like a modern Swiss chateau with lots of wood, mountain-inspired touches and colorful artwork displayed throughout the public areas. Suites have kitchenettes and are equipped with artisan teas and balconies overlook Mountain Village in the ski area. Fireplaces solidify the rustic feel.

When you need to unwind, visit the outdoor pool and terrace surrounded by mountains, or kick back with a drink in front of the cozy double-sided fireplace in Timber Room.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Suites in the Telluride hotel feature high-quality kitchenette facilities with sleek Scandinavian design, including a Wolf stovetop and Asko Swedish dishwasher, adding a luxury home-away-from-home feel.
  • A common area on the lobby level — complete with a library, plush armchairs and a double fireplace — allows you to watch the snow fall over the Mountain Village in rustic comfort.
  • The Telluride hotel is just 30-second walk to the gondola that takes guests to the first runs of the ski mountain and into town. The lift ticket sales office is just underneath the gondola.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask for anything at this luxury hotel. The staff here is among the friendliest you’ll meet.
  • It doesn’t get more convenient than having a ski rental shop on property, except that you can also reserve your skis, boots, poles and helmets online prior to your arrival.
Things to Know
  • If you’re flying into Telluride and plan to stay at the hotel and the vicinity the whole time, there’s no reason to rent a car because most everything is walkable or accessible by gondola.
  • Turndown gets a different spin. It's more of a bespoke "stretch down" service, where a different stretch or meditation is offered nightly with a complementary item to enjoy.
  • Stop at a grocery store on your way to the hotel to take full advantage of your in-suite kitchenette.
The Rooms
  • Rooms come with gas fireplaces and large windows or balconies that offer great vistas of the mountain and the resort.
  • The grand bathrooms with deep-soaking tubs and steam showers are perfect after a day on the slopes.
  • The hotel's condos are the roomiest, with Wolf and Sub-Zero kitchen appliances, a washer and dryer, and views of the San Juan Mountains or the ice rink plaza.
  • Every accommodation is outfitted with a unique adventure bar, which carries a collection of items and gear for mountain exploration.
The Restaurants
  • Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and Sunday brunch), Black Iron Kitchen and Bar serves up a seasonal menu of casual yet modern mountain cuisine.
  • Located rinkside in Mountain Village, signature fire tables at Black Iron Kitchen and Bar accent the outdoor plaza, and provide the perfect seat for people watching and liquid restoration after a day on the slopes.
  • The luxury hotel's social hub, Timber Room turns out shareable plates that range from a baked potato with crème fraîche and caviar to Rocky Mountain elk tartare with local huckleberry jus.
  • During the winter, huddle next to a fire pit at Timber Room’s alfresco area under a sheepskin blanket and sip cocktails while overlooking Mountain Village’s ice rink.
