Forbes Travel Guide performs independent, incognito inspections of all hotels we rate. This is what we paid when we stayed at this hotel.

When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.

A modern landmark near Marina Bay, The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore is a stunning 32-story tower complete with seven acres of green space. The hotel is housed in an eye-catching white, rectangular block punctuated by small octagonal windows, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Kevin Roche.

As evidenced by the Singapore property’s bold design features both inside and out, art plays a major role at the hotel. An impressive art collection, feng shui design elements and chic lounges named for internationally acclaimed artists add to The Ritz-Carlton’s singular style.

A number of popular sites are within walking distance, including Marina Bay’s shops and casino, the Esplanade Theatre, the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Singapore Flyer Ferris wheel.

Fitness-inclined travelers are in luck — the 24-hour gym was tripled in size in 2016 and now features a movement studio, monkey bars, state-of-the-art cardio equipment, TRX suspension equipment and free weights.

Our Inspector's Highlights

A 4,200-piece contemporary art collection — one of the largest in Southeast Asia — graces the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel’s public spaces. The impressive array includes works by Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Dale Chihuly.
Feng shui plays an important role in the design of the hotel. The octagonal windows seen throughout The Ritz-Carlton, for example, allude to the auspicious number eight, while also affording panoramic city views.
The Tea Salon, situated next to the Summer Pavilion restaurant, is an often-overlooked but wonderfully peaceful little nook used mainly as a waiting area. The pristine display of cups, pots, tealeaves and pouches of Tea Bone Zen Mind brews will tempt you to pick up a savory souvenir.
The Singapore hotel boasts the first La Mer partner spa in the Asia-Pacific region. Its glowing blue lights and sandstone-style walls really make it feel like an aquatic haven.
The lobby is a bright, open, visually arresting sight to behold. Be sure to look up at the ceiling, covered in shimmering mother-of-pearl with a massive cornucopia sculpture suspended in mid-air.

Things to Know

The property has a prime view of the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix. The race takes place in September each year, so book early for a room around that time.
Among the grandest art statements here are the pieces by Frank Stella. The installation Cornucopia, suspended above the lobby floor, was inspired by the shape of a sun visor; Moby Dick was assembled using 138 pieces of wood.
Splurge for a Club Level room for exclusive access to the Club Lounge. A host of amenities includes an artist’s corner complete with paints, pencils and an easel so you can try your hand at sketching the Singapore skyline.

The Rooms

The décor in each room is simple, dominated by light wood and white hues that are complemented by a large decorative panel of wood behind the bed.
Accommodations, which start at a large 550 square feet, come with views of Marina Bay or the Singapore Sports Hub and Kallang River.
Marble-clad bathrooms feature deep tubs set by a large octagonal window, affording you stunning vistas during your sunset soak.
Rooms ending in the number 26, the Premier Suites, have a bathroom that looks right onto the Singapore Flyer, a view that you won’t forget.
The Ritz Suite, the hotel’s premier accommodation, features luxurious touches like Warhol’s “Flower Series” prints, works by Damian Hirst, a Sonos sound system, an entertainment room with a 79-inch LCD TV and a six-foot-long Jacuzzi tub.

The Restaurants

Hailed as one of the best Cantonese restaurants in Singapore, Summer Pavilion is a light, airy and stylish spot for lunch or dinner. A selection of dim sum is available at midday, but we recommend opting for the set menu in the evening, featuring dishes like poached rice with lobster and braised four-head South African abalone.
A British-colonial inspired ambience pervades Colony, with rattan chairs and framed archival prints of historic scenes. Seven different cooking stations offer Western and Asian dishes, including local favorites like laksa (spicy noodle soup), chicken rice and bak kut teh (pork rib in broth).
Colony serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily (as well as a champagne brunch on Sundays), but it is also where you can enjoy festive holiday meals and special culinary events.
Dominated by the large Sunrise installation on its wall, the Chihuly Lounge is the place for cocktails, light bites and the decadent eight-course afternoon tea.
