Park Hyatt Shenzhen

Sky-high sophistication in China's tech hub
VERIFIED LUXURY
Shenzhen has transformed from a fishing village into a tech megalopolis in just a few decades, and Park Hyatt Shenzhen sits at the apex of that headlong rush into the future. Residing in the Ping An Finance Center’s South Tower, the hotel enjoys a vertiginous perch above one of China's most restless skylines. The sense of arrival is immediate: the elevators open directly into the hotel’s sky-high lobby, revealing an uninterrupted panorama of the city below.

Designed by renowned Canadian design firm Yabu Pushelberg, whose portfolio includes many of the world’s most celebrated luxury hotels, the property’s interiors draw on the story a Chinese scholar returning home to build his dream courtyard residence. It's a narrative that subtly shapes the experience, from the thoughtfully curated contemporary art collection to the elegant, residential feel of the guest rooms.

The rooftop speakeasy attracts a stylish local crowd at sundown — always a reliable sign — while nearby Futian Station puts Hong Kong about 15 minutes away by high-speed train, making for an easy day trip.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Ranging from 516 to 3,229 square feet, the 195 rooms and suites reinterpret chinoiserie for the modern era, layering warm lacquered wood, rich saturated hues, abstract ink-wash artwork and geometric screens to create spaces that feel cultured and transportive. Floor-to-ceiling windows are standard throughout, with every room level benefitting from the hotel’s sky-high setting.
  • The Attic occupies the hotel’s 48th floor, but despite its lofty rooftop location, it maintains the feel of a speakeasy. With little signage at ground level and access via two different elevators, it’s arguably Park Hyatt's best-kept secret. The effort is worth it: modern cocktails and live music set the scene, while sightlines reach well beyond the city grid on clear nights.
  • Known for its global cuisine and bright, airy atmosphere,The Glasshouse is another venue worth seeking out. Located on the 47th floor, the light-filled atrium hosts a popular weekend brunch with elegant trolley service and some dishes prepared à la minute tableside. Reserve a window seat well in advance; it’s as popular with locals as it is with hotel guests.
  • The sleek look will appeal to those who appreciate design-driven hotels, as will the contemporary Chinese art sprinkled through the property, such as artist’s Xiang Jing’s tower-like sculpture of hyper-flexible acrobats stacked on top of one another.
  • The Shenzhen hotel's wellness facilities are equally impressive. The 25-meter indoor lap pool on the eighth floor is among the city’s best, with woven loungers and plush seating, soaring windows and a serene atmosphere that makes an early morning swim worth the wakeup call. Afterward, guests can unwind at the spa, where traditional Chinese therapies complement a range of Western treatments.

Nearby Attractions

  • About a 10-minute taxi ride north, you’ll find Lianhuashan Park (meaning, Lotus Hill Mountain). Akin to Shenzhen’s green lung, this nearly 450-acre urban oasis is named for its lotus-like shape, formed by gently rolling hills. At its heart, a manageable 15- to 20-minute climb leads to a hilltop statue of former leader Deng Xiaoping, considered the "architect of modern China," where sweeping views across the park, Futian and the wider skyline await.
  • Around a five-minute drive away, Shenzhen Concert Hall is striking cultural landmark designed by Arata Isozaki, the acclaimed Japanese architect and 2019 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate. Its undulating glass façade resembles a piece of folded origami, standing in curious contrast to Futian's surrounding skyscrapers. Free classical concerts take place on weekends, though advance ticket reservations are typically required.
  • Where the city meets the sea, Shenzhen Bay Park is an eight-mile waterfront greenway stretching along the coast from Futian to Nanshan, around a 20-minute drive from the luxury hotel. Popular with cyclists and joggers, it offers landscaped promenades, mangrove forests and unobstructed views across the bay toward Hong Kong's New Territories on clear days.
  • As Shenzhen’s largest creative hub, OCT-LOFT provides a glimpse into the city’s artistic side. Set with a former industrial district 15 minutes away by cab, its repurposed factory buildings now house independent galleries, design boutiques, cafes, bookshops and creative studios with a steady calendar of exhibitions and events.
  • For a deeper understanding of the city, visit the Shenzhen Civic Center and neighboring Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, a 15- to 20-minute trip on foot. Through giant city models, multimedia displays and historical exhibits, the latter traces the city’s remarkable transformation from fishing village to global technology powerhouse, providing valuable context for the skyline outside your hotel window.
