Shenzhen is China’s first and most successful Special Economic Zone, a pristine example of China’s new cities. Once a small and quiet fishing and farming village with a small population of a few thousand, Shenzhen is now a business hub of southern China. The change happened after late 1979, when Shenzhen was designated a Special Economic Zone. After more than $30 billion in foreign investment, Shenzhen is an economic superpower filled with soaring modern buildings and more than 11 million residents. Despite being a business hub, this city in the Pearl River Delta also offers beautiful parks, beaches and tourist attractions like Chinese Folk Culture Village.
