The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman

Easygoing elegance on Seven Mile Beach
VERIFIED LUXURY
Set on Grand Cayman’s famed white-sand Seven Mile Beach, The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman lays claim to one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful backyards.

The stunning island scenery informs the hotel’s elegant look that marries modern coastal chic with midcentury British Caribbean style from Champalimaud Design. You’ll see it everywhere from the deep sea blue that washes over the guest room hallways to the palm-inspired touches that adorn the lobby lounge bar, some of the art and the accommodations.

Add two outdoor pools and an oceanfront soaking tub, the Greg Norman-designed Ritz-Carlton golf course, the sleek spa, the custom Nick Bollettieri tennis program, Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment activities and signature restaurant Blue by Eric Ripert — stop by the resort at the beginning of each year to see the Five-Star chef host a culinary clique that includes Emeril Lagasse, José Andrés and many top chefs during the Cayman Cookout — and you have a resort with one well-rounded luxury lineup.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Blue by Eric Ripert is the undisputed culinary attraction at the Grand Cayman hotel — and justifiably so. But there are other gastronomic gems here: Taikun is popular for its fresh, delicious sushi and rolls, though foodies should opt for the impressive omakase with sake pairings (the restaurant has the largest sake collection on the island). And while alfresco Andiamo is more casual, the made-from-scratch pastas and housemade gelato are pure comfort food.
  • Greg Norman’s nine-hole Ritz-Carlton golf course provides ample challenges as you tee off into Caribbean trade winds and navigate eight waterfront holes.
  • After a day full of sun-drenched activity, the hotel’s water-inspired spa is a welcome respite.
  • When you aren’t on the pristine beach, you’ll want to spend your time at Silver Palm, the lobby lounge that gets its name from the Cayman Islands’ national tree. The statement-making space is saturated in a soft green that’s the same hue of the underside of a thatch palm leaf. Enjoy coffee and tea in the morning and then rare rums and cigars in the evening.

  • The luxury hotel is home to the Caribbean’s largest suite. The lavish Seven South spans nearly 18,000 square feet on the top floor of the Ocean Tower. It offers a three-bedroom penthouse and the ability to add three connecting two-bedroom suites, and a vast terrace with amazing beach vistas.

Things to Know
  • Balance your intake of spiked Caribbean tipples with a proper afternoon tea Friday to Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Silver Palm lounge.
  • Families will find a hit in Starfish Cay, an interactive water playground full of slides and fountains. This inherently family-friendly property entertains children and adults alike with Ambassadors of the Environment; enroll your little ones in snorkeling 101 or join them on a mangrove kayak trip.
  • The resort's Courts tennis center offers clinics and instruction by accomplished professionals.
  • As you journey to your room, you will indeed know you’ve arrived in the Caymans: the long hallway showcases the work of local artists. It’s the largest and longest-running art gallery on the island.
The Rooms
  • The 369 accommodations feel residential with a sofa and ottoman, a round dining table with a banquette and woven leather-strap chairs, and a wood armoire that holds the minibar and the Nespresso machine.
  • The crisp-white spaces with four-poster beds have subtle nods to the island. Get a glimpse of the thatched palms in the foyer’s muted gray leaf print wallpaper and the screens framing the floor-to-ceiling windows and door. The rope in the custom light fixtures reference the island’s former rope-making industry. The art on the walls adds a burst of color, and while the pieces vary, they all include ching-chings, native local birds known for their boisterous call.
  • In the creamy marble bathrooms, you’ll find plush robes, Asprey bath products, a separate shower and tub.
  • All rooms and suites feature balconies from which to watch the palms sway.
      The Restaurants
      • Blue by Eric Ripert is one of the region’s best fine-dining venues, partially because of the four-course à la carte dinner menu, and the Eric Ripert and Blue tasting menus. The former re-creates the most popular dishes from Le Bernardin in New York, including Ripert’s melt-in-your-mouth tuna with foie gras. The latter focuses on dishes featuring the day’s catches, which can include wahoo, conch and cobia.
      • Seven is a visually striking steakhouse with ocean views and a Sunday brunch topped off with endless champagne.
      • Andiamo is an alfresco Italian eatery serving comforting and delicious housemade pastas, flatbreads and pizzas.
      • Just off the main lobby, Taikun offers a huge sushi collection, a chef’s omakase menu and fresh wasabi grated tableside.
