Claridge's Spa

A contemporary Zen spa in London’s grande dame
VERIFIED LUXURY
A project seven years in the making, Claridge’s Spa proves more than worth the wait. Three floors down, the buzz of this storied Mayfair hotel melts away. The glamorous, art deco history gives way to something entirely new: a retreat that balances Asian-inspired serenity with contemporary luxury.

Designed by Hong Kong native André Fu, whose work for the Maybourne group has become synonymous with quiet elegance, strong Eastern influences and the designer’s own visits to temples and Zen gardens guide the design. The result is an environment that feels both grounding and light. Though it already feels complete, there are plans to further expand its 7,000-square-foot footprint with more treatment areas.

Personalized, holistic and innovative services await. After a treatment, you are welcomed back to reality with custom-blended tea or even a margarita, if you prefer something a little stronger and celebratory.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • FaceGym founder Inge Theron crafted the spa concept and treatment program, which also features other big names in beauty, including Teresa Tarmey, Augustinus Bader, Omorovicza and MZ Skin.
  • Every treatment begins with a welcoming foot ceremony using Koji water and ends with the gentle ring of a bell. The fermented enzyme-rich koji softens, cleanses and smooths the skin, serving as a calming way to signal a shift in mood and energy.
  • The spa experience here is peppered with thoughtful touches. Subtle details are treated with great care, from disposable underwear presented in a cloth-wrapped box to seasonal ikebana floral arrangements, crystal-infused water, handmade poultices and the choice of incense you are given pre-treatment.
  • The Eastern influence permeates the treatment list, too. The London spa’s signature service is a must-try 90-minute Bamboo and Silk Ritual. It begins with an invigorating bamboo massage that works deep into the muscles with housemade herbal poultices, followed by a restorative hand massage that is surprisingly effective. Finally, delicate silk cocoons are pressed onto the face to hydrate and replenish.
  • You are never rushed at Claridge’s Spa. A session here feels like a detachment from the outside world, where you can fully get lost and go at your own pace. Treatments are intentionally booked with a minimum 30-minute interval between them, allowing plenty of time to shower, unwind at leisure or even get spruced up for your evening’s events.

The Facilities

  • The pool is Claridge’s first — a delicately designed, nine-meter, salt-treated sanctuary. Meant more for lounging than laps, the pool has relaxing cabanas framing it. Other wet facilities include a steam room and a sauna.
  • Seven Japanese-named treatment rooms feature heated ergonomic beds and the hammam is a striking room resplendent in pink onyx marble — the same color as you’ll see upstairs at Claridge’s famed Painter’s Room bar.
  • A by-appointment-only Josh Wood salon offers hair, nail and makeup services both in the spa and in-room, with the hairdressing legend’s top stylists being on call for cuts, colors, blow dries or whatever takes your whim.
  • The gym is small but well kitted out with Technogym, Pent, Nohrd and BLK Box equipment. For those who want to exercise in total privacy, the Pent kit is also available on demand in guest rooms.
  • Depending on the treatments chosen, guests can meet with a rotating roster of wellness masters, from acupuncturist Ross J. Barr to massage therapist Luca Bagnara.
