The palatial Nizuc Spa by ESPA pays tribute to Cancun’s Mayan past with both its design and treatments. Burnished golden accents glow in warm, low light. Curtains of water pour into tubs and pools from curved silver fixtures that resemble waves. Candles and fire features flicker against stone-chinked walls reminiscent of Mayan temples.

You may choose to leave your spa room's wood levered doors open to the sea to allow in soft natural light, or have them closed to fully focus on the treatments. With wood furniture, plush Egyptian-cotton towels and linens, stone walls and metal bowls used for oil treatments, rooms all have an organic, ancient-yet-stylish feel that take full advantage of their Caribbean views and gentle ocean breezes.

In addition to standards such as Swedish massage and reflexology, the spa offers several unique specialties inspired by antiquity, such as Mayan Cacao, a muscle-melting massage and Shirodara (forehead oil pour) featuring coconut oil.
Private spa suites offer their own little slice of heaven for couples via a private pool, an outdoor deck for sunbathing and the opportunity to order fare from the spa’s cafe. These secluded rooms have ocean views where you can spend the morning together, interrupted only for spa services in the attached treatment room.

The spa is open for guests daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Arrive one hour before your scheduled service to adequately fill out the health survey and unwind in the soothing spa facilities.

The Treatments

The Mayan Cacao treatment uses cacao oil during its variable-pressure massage, and ends with warm oil drizzled onto your forehead. Cacao was believed by the Mayans to be the food of the gods, and the scent of chocolate is quite heavenly to those who opt this treatment.
The Nizuc Renewal begins with a sea salt body- and pure Mexican agave-scrub, followed by a massage incorporating warm gemstones, believed by the Mayans to exude healing properties. A lingering scalp massage signals the end of the exhilarating service.
There are a few treatments designed specifically for men, too. The most indulgent is undoubtedly the four-hour Gentleman’s ESPA Retreat, which includes a deep tissue massage, an Age Rebel facial, haircut and manicure or pedicure, plus an ESPA spa product gift set.

The Facilities

The Nizuc Thermal Experience includes access to the aromatic steam room with its Mayan stone figure centerpiece, the sauna, ice fountain, cold plunge pool, solarium, heated lounge chairs, coed outdoor spa pool and the vitality pool with hydro-massage nozzles, and the relaxation lounge with fresh fruit and herbal tea.
The well-lit fitness room includes current exercise equipment and large flat-screen televisions; the movement room is used for yoga, Crossfit, meditation, stretching and dance classes for both individuals or groups.
Order lunch and appetizers at the spa café, where the menu includes a variety of salads and light sandwiches fit for whiling the day away at the tranquil retreat.
