Chef's Table at Astor Club

Culinary theater on Chicago’s Gold Coast
VERIFIED LUXURY
Tucked discreetly among the glitz and glam of Chicago’s Gold Coast, Astor Club is a haven where exclusivity meets culinary theater. The highlight is its chef’s table experience, a bespoke dining journey dreamed up by executive chef Trevor Teich and his talented team.

Seated before an open kitchen, you’ll enjoy a front-row seat to the show as artful plates come to life, each dish blending precision technique with seasonal Midwestern ingredients. The multi-course tasting evolved with the chef’s inspiration, paired seamlessly with rare wines or top-shelf spirits selected by the sommelier. Every detail, from the hand-blown glassware to the hushed, marble-accented surroundings, exudes refinement.

With only a few coveted seats available each evening, the Chef’s Table at Astor Club transforms dinner into a private performance — one where time slows, conversation lingers and gastronomy takes center stage.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The experience begins with theatrical flair: You enter through a restored art nouveau vestibule, then descend an onyx-hued spiral staircase into a softly lit, speakeasy-style space. You’ll then be led into a private dining room featuring brass-inlay paneling and a communal table seating just 10 patrons.
  • The chef’s table tasting menu is an indulgent affair, spanning eight to 10 courses and each introducing a new technique or ingredient reveal. You might enjoy a delicate oyster crowned with champagne espuma and cucumber sorbet, followed by a porcini mushroom tart with duxelles and caviar.
  • The beverage pairings are elevated, with rare reserve selections, bracing aperitifs and refined slow-aged spirits designed to mirror the arc of the meal.
  • The pace of the evening is thoughtfully calibrated. Service is deliberate but relaxed, enabling storytelling between courses — Teich often introduces individual dishes, sharing his seasonal inspiration, sourcing discovery or technique behind the plate.
  • Although housed within a private members-only club, the chef’s table is open to non-members through a special “chef’s table membership” tier. You’ll feel as though you’ve infiltrated an exclusive enclave, even if you’re not yet a full club member.

The Chef

  • A North Shore native, Teich discovered his passion for cooking early, inspired by family meals and Chicago’s eclectic dining scene. Early exposure to fine dining imbued him with the idea that meals are more than just sustenance.
  • Teich studied at Le Cordon Bleu Chicago, where he refined his technique in classical French cuisine.
  • He cut his teeth at celebrated establishments such as Acadia, L2O and NoMi in Chicago, as well as NoMad Las Vegas and Twist by Pierre Gagnaire in Vegas.
  • Named for his mother, Teich’s restaurant, Claudia, earned international acclaim, showcasing his flair for narrative-driven tasting menus.
  • The talented toque believes that food is an expression of care, a philosophy he carries into his role at Astor Club. His menus blur the line between contemporary French-influenced tasting menus and comforting flavors that evoke childhood memories.
