Atlas Buckhead

Atlanta’s stroke of culinary genius
VERIFIED LUXURY

There’s such an artistic air at Atlas Buckhead, the signature eatery at The St. Regis Atlanta, a docent could accompany you to the table.

On the restaurant’s walls, you’ll find contemporary paintings from Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita next to some of Yan Pei-Ming’s finest pieces. You’ll also notice a gallery-worthy glass showcase of vintage brandy and bourbons that look like bottled art. Patrons enjoying the scene will be dressed to the nines — the only thing missing from their ensemble is a bidding paddle.

And then there is chef Freddy Money’s open kitchen, framed in such a way that it even looks like art from a distance. Show-stopping American dishes done with European refinement come out to a symphony of precision and synchronicity from the staff. The plates’ varied colors, fragrances and textures reflect a culinary team that’s mastered a multitude of epicurean mediums. From personalized menus to individualized goodbyes, an evening at Atlas is a masterpiece in hospitality and haute cuisine.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Atlas Buckhead’s dynamic dining room sets the tone for a memorable evening. Banquettes are covered in rich fabrics. Ceilings are vaulted. Walls are done in dark, moody tones. The space is sophisticated, but with Blondie and Oasis streaming from the speakers, you know it’s not stuffy, either.
    • Much of the impressive art filling the restaurant comes from The Lewis Collection, one of the largest private collections in the world. Should a piece catch your eye, ask your server for a closer look with the virtual program on a tablet.
    • Not to be outdone by the stunning Zeng Fanzhi piece hanging on the wall, chef Money approaches each dish with the discerning eye of a sculptor.
    • It’s one thing for a waitstaff to be in harmony, but it’s something remarkable for an entire meal to have such cohesion. Plates lower and ladles scoop as if they’ve been rehearsing the moves for months. A booth over, you’ll notice table crumbs being swept away and dropped napkins being picked up like scenes in a production.
    • Consider the Garden Room to be the Atlanta restaurant’s more colorful side. This enchanting, flora-themed space works for a romantic evening with your significant other or a rambunctious brunch with friends.
    The Food

    • Chef Money prides himself on bringing a fresh, innovative approach to cooking. With the help of local farms, his team tells poignant yet playful stories through seasonal à la carte tavern menus and chef’s tasting menus. You’ll enjoy octopus pork rinds; rich, earthy venison; and smiley face cookies stuffed with jam one night and go on a completely different epicurean adventure the next visit.
    • Choices are a big part of an Atlas Buckhead experience. You don’t only have a wine sommelier point you toward great whites to pair with your halibut, but the seasonal American restaurant also offers a tray of water accompaniments (orange slices, mint, limes), a basket of four or five bread varieties and even a selection of knives to pick from before your Westholme wagyu arrives.
    • But even with all these options, the evening’s most vital decision may be the cheese cart. Filled with 15 selections from all corners of the world — from Indiana to Switzerland — the aromatic ensemble is a tasty distraction before dessert.

    The Drinks

    • Vino lovers will appreciate a wine list with pours from as close as New York and as distant as Greece.
    • The art-appreciating establishment shows off its creative side with the cocktails. You’ll find your traditional mixes, sure, but allow the waiter to tell you about other fun, flavorful concoctions that the bartenders can also put together.
    • There’s a cart of more than 10 port wines that passes through the dining room. If you’re looking for a sublime sip of Portugal to go with your meal, the sommelier will happily assist with a selection.
