Hotel Washington

Steeped in rich history and modern flourish
VERIFIED LUXURY
Hotel Washington strikes a sophisticated balance between heritage and contemporary polish. The Beaux-Arts landmark, dating to 1917, is steeped in history yet carries the energy of its 15-year run as a W-branded property.

Interiors pair original marble and brass detailing with bold art installations, including cherry blossom-inspired headboards and murals by contemporary artist Amit Greenberg, creating a chic sense of place that nods to both past and present.

At Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street, just steps from the White House, the hotel has long been a magnet for political insiders, celebrities and design-minded travelers alike. You may recognize it from films like The Firm, The Godfather Part II and No Way Out. Its famed rooftop terrace, VUE, remains one of the city’s most coveted vantage points, ideal for sunset cocktails, firework displays or sweeping monument views any time of year.

With a boutique spa, lively dining and thoughtful service, the hotel doubles as both a stylish retreat and a vibrant social hub in the nation’s capital.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Come for the VUE — the hotel’s rooftop terrace and bar is one of the most in-demand spots to catch epic sunsets, and anytime the city has fireworks, but you’ll score cityscape vistas all year long — just be sure to make a recommendation.
  • The National Register-listed building’s ornate sgraffito and brickwork provide a striking introduction before you enter. The aesthetic is an intentional blend: historical bones plus modern flourish. Preservation of signature exterior details meets interior art installations, thoughtful lighting, design elements that feel specially curated.
  • Monument Suites feature floor-to-ceiling murals, high style and commanding city vistas. Like the other suites, these also feature pops of bright red throughout.
  • The Washington, D.C., hotel’s central location puts the Kennedy Center, National Mall museums and Capitol Hill within easy reach.
  • The lower-level spa (a boutique gem) and 24/7 fitness center ensure that you can be a power player and still live in your wellness era, but if you’re the outdoor type, the hotel is well-positioned to hit the streets for a run, too.
The Restaurants

  • Elegant yet relaxed, Fireclay is a great option for power lunching. Its special 40-minute menu ensures you can have a multi-course meal and get back in time for your next Zoom (or on with your afternoon sightseeing), all with a “carryout” sweet treat to get you through the afternoon.
  • The Patio adds an alfresco option with American classics and craft drinks. D.C. is temperate, so you can generally dine outside about eight months of the year.
  • VUE offers indoor and hybrid seating with panoramic views, buzzing late into the night.
  • Head to the Lobby Bar to sip cocktails amid tufted leather sofas, black-and-white marble checkerboard floors and violet lighting.
