Grand Resort Bad Ragaz

Water-powered wellness in the Swiss Alps
VERIFIED LUXURY
Set amid the Alpine landscapes of eastern Switzerland’s Heidiland region, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz has spent more than 150 years building its reputation around the restorative powers of the nearby Tamina thermal springs. Today, the sprawling, cutting-edge wellness destination encompasses four separate accommodations options, extensive thermal bathing facilities, a celebrated dining program and one of Europe’s most comprehensive medical wellness offerings, creating a resort experience that bridges luxury hospitality and health.

Time is divided among thermal pools fed by mineral-rich spring water, internationally acclaimed restaurants, championship golf and the Tamina Health Center, a state-of-the-art longevity and preventative medicine hub opened in 2025. Accommodations range from the historic elegance of Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz to the contemporary Spa Suites, where private saunas and whirlpools overlook the Bündner Herrschaft wine region.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Grand Resort Bad Ragaz’s defining feature is its legendary thermal water, sourced from the Tamina Gorge and maintained at a consistent 97.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Flowing throughout the property, it becomes a throughline of the experience, most notably in the Spa Suites, where it is piped directly into private bathing areas.
  • Pack your clubs. The Bad Ragaz resort features an 18-hole Championship Course and a 9-hole Executive Course, nestled against a dramatic backdrop of lush greenery and soaring Swiss mountains.
  • The Tamina Health Center brings a fully integrated medical wellness dimension to the resort, pairing classic spa therapies with a team of physicians and therapists. Offerings range from preventive screenings and diagnostics to structured longevity and lifestyle programs. There’s also a Swiss Olympic Medical Center that helps athletes ranging from amateur to pro.
  • Spanning more than 64,000 square feet, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz’s spa complex is legendary. Among the crown jewels is the grand indoor pool framed by stunning classical columns and arched ceilings that evoke a serene, cathedral-like atmosphere that’s perfect for a meditative morning or evening dip.
  • Seven unique restaurants run the gamut. Among the highlights: dine on hyper-regional Alpine cuisine at chef Sven Wassmer’s Memories, health-focused plates and non-alcoholic cocktails at Verve, shared fine-dining plates at IGNIV by Andreas Caminada, classic Swiss fare and beer at Zollstube and relaxed golf clubhouse fare at Gladys.

The Rooms

  • The luxury resort is divided into four distinct but interconnected accommodation options: Grand Hotel Quellenhof, Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz, Hotel Palais Bad Ragaz and Spa Suites. Each wing offers a different aesthetic, from classic grandeur to contemporary wellness-focused design.
  • Reimagined by Swiss architect Claudio Carbone, the 98-suite Grand Hotel Quellenhof features a modern classical look with a mix of walnut parquet and natural stone flooring, a neutral palette with soft gold and beige tones, large windows for natural light, and marble bathrooms with freestanding tubs and double vanities.
  • Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz leans more relaxed and modern, with interiors in earthy tones such as chocolate browns and muted greens and blues and plush materials like velvet throw pillows and satin linens. And sculptural balls hang on the headboards.
  • Hotel Palais Bad Ragaz is the resort’s most historic wing, with rich jewel-toned palettes, ornate wallpaper, antique-style dark wood furnishings, crystal chandeliers and some have canopy or four-poster beds.
  • Contemporary Spa Suites sport a minimalist, wellness-focused design with clean lines, blond wood, light natural stone and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows. Perks include thermal water-fed soaking tubs, rain showers and, in select categories, private saunas and steam baths.
