Grand Hotel Kronenhof

Alpine opulence meets modern comfort
VERIFIED LUXURY
Arriving at Grand Hotel Kronenhof in Pontresina is like stepping into a Swiss snow globe: elegant, enchanting and touched by alpine magic. Nestled in the Engadin Valley, this grande dame of the Alps combines 19th-century opulence with world-class comforts. Expect sweeping mountain views at every turn, from lavish rooms with carved ceilings and velvet drapes to the showstopping spa, where an infinity pool seems to pour into the peaks.

Service is polished but warm, and dining ranges from gourmet to fondue-fueled feasts under twinkling chandeliers. You’ll awaken to the quiet thrill of cross-country trails just steps from your door or head to nearby St. Moritz for a splash of glitz. But Kronenhof’s true charm lies in its refined and relaxed atmosphere, like a cashmere sweater worn fireside. Add in a rich history, architectural grandeur and year-round mountain activities, and it’s easy to see why this palatial retreat has endured.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Soaking in the Kronenhof Spa’s indoor infinity pool while gazing through the two-story, floor-to-ceiling windows at the surrounding peaks is its own form of alpine therapy. You will be tempted to return to the pool’s waters after a day spent skiing or hiking.
  • The Belle Époque interiors are all frescoed ceilings and sweeping staircases, but the atmosphere is refreshingly relaxed — think more cozy-luxe than buttoned-up. Staff treats you like a regular, even on your first visit.
  • No matter the season, lunch at Le Pavillon promises alpine charm. Soak up summer with champagne and oysters on the terrace, while winter provides cozy lodge vibes, bubbling pots of fondue and ice skating. For a formal Swiss fine-dining experience, opt for the Grand Restaurant, where you will sit at white-cloth-topped tables under chandeliers, vaulted ceilings and ornate décor. Kronenstübli offers a more intimate ambiance amid its wood walls, but the food is gourmet, featuring Mediterranean and French flavors.
  • The Engadin Valley is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. In the winter, Kronenhof gives skiers and snowboarders access to more than 215 miles of slopes and cross-country skiers about 150 miles of trails. There’s also snowshoe tours and carriage rides. Then in the summer, activities shift to hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering and goat trekking.
  • The Engadin hotel caters wonderfully to families. A staffed children’s club, a dedicated kids’ restaurant and a Very Important Kids program keep little ones occupied. There’s also a bowling alley for family fun. And dog-friendly rooms and outdoor spaces put pet parents at ease, too.

The Rooms

  • Grand Hotel Kronenhof’s 112 rooms blend Belle Époque charm with modern luxury, featuring high ceilings, wood touches and timeless furnishings. Original architectural details add a sense of place and grandeur.
  • Many rooms offer postcard-worthy views of the Roseg Glacier, Engadin peaks or the luxury hotel’s peaceful courtyard. Oversized windows and balconies make the most of the scenery.
  • Expect high-end touches like marble bathrooms, pillow menus, walk-in closets and sleek technology discreetly integrated into the classic design. Every detail is curated for maximum comfort.
  • Nine uniquely designed suites each offer a different dose of alpine luxury, including expansive views, intricate decorative woodwork or roaring fireplaces.
