Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz

A grand Belle Époque beauty
VERIFIED LUXURY
We all have St. Moritz to thank for the concept of winter tourism. Welcoming guests since the late 19th century for holidays filled with sunny days in the Engadin mountains, the once sleepy alpine town now hosts glamorous events like the Snow Polo World Cup, the White Turf races and The International Concours of Elegance. And Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz offers guests easy access to all the action.

This grand hotel stands proudly at the foot of the Corviglia Signal funicular. The 19th-century palace has 205 rooms and suites, a spa featuring a variety of saunas, the famous Billionaire club and several other noteworthy bars and restaurants — including a real igloo. As the only international luxury-brand-name hotel in St. Moritz, the Grand Hotel des Bains is for the Kempinski devotee who wants a taste of Swiss alpine hospitality.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Guest rooms take cues from both the hotel’s Belle Époque heritage as well as the alpine-chic atmosphere of St. Moritz. The wood tones and plush linens create a cozy place to sleep, and the marble-on-marble bathrooms add an extra dose of luxury.
  • Neora is the first modern Greek restaurant in the Engadin. The menu — filled with fresh fish and seafood alongside meaty dishes like moussaka — transports you to a Greek island in the middle of the mountains.
  • Don’t miss theIgloo Savour by Beluga. This is the après hot spot. Pop in for a vodka cocktail or a glass of hot apple cider and dance to some heart-thumping beats by one of the in-house DJs.
  • In addition to luxury hotel rooms and suites, there are residences available to book as well. Located in several buildings on the property, the expansive residences offer one to five bedrooms, making for the perfect multi-generational stay.
  • Billionaire St. Moritz lives up to the hype. Bump elbows with oligarchs, models, tycoons and fashionable people from all over the world all night long in this dinner show and nightclub experience. (Tip: book your table far in advance; it books up quickly in high season.)

Things to Know

  • There is an onsite ski rental shop and being so close to the Signalbahn cable car, this is a skier’s dream. Let the hotel arrange your skis and passes for a seamless holiday.
  • The St. Moritz hotel was built on top of a natural hot spring, and the spa and pools integrate the spring water in many therapeutic ways. You can even drink a sample of the water in the spa.
  • The property is open during all seasons except for a short period in the spring, so you could visit in the winter for skiing and return in the summertime for a different experience. In the warmer months, guests spend their time hiking panoramic trails, cycling mountain passes and swimming in or sailing on Lake St. Moritz.
