Fairmont Le Montreux Palace
A Swiss Riviera legend with a musical soul
Here are five things to know about us:
1. We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
2. We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
3. Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
4. While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience at a hotel, restaurant or spa goes beyond looks — how it makes you feel is what you will remember most.
5. We started in1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.

The resplendent Fairmont Le Montreux Palace has anchored the Montreux shoreline since 1906, when architect Eugène Jost unveiled the Belle Époque landmark during the region’s Swiss Riviera-era boom. Built as an expansion of the Hôtel du Cygne, it arrived with then-innovative comforts — electric lighting, central heating and en suite baths — along with theatrical salons and lake-facing terraces that catered to the aristocrats, artists and other prominent regulars. Across the 20th century, the grand palace stood at the crossroads of history, from serving as a military hospital for the Allies during both World Wars to hosting the signing of the 1936 Montreux Convention, all while steadily evolving into one of Switzerland’s most recognizable lakeside hotels. Its storied legacy was further elevated by a long association with the Montreux Jazz Festival, which deepened the property to the city’s cultural fabric.
Today, the luxury hotel balances heritage architecture with contemporary refinement across 236 rooms and suites, many refreshed with soft, lake-inspired tones. A 21,500-square-foot spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and beautifully designed restaurants ensure that it continues to be a timeless beacon for years to come.
