Six Senses Fort Barwara

A rural stay rooted in Indian regality
VERIFIED LUXURY
Positioned within the walls of a 14th‑century fort in Rajasthan, Six Senses Fort Barwara balances centuries-old architecture with quietly modern comforts. The 48 suites are threaded through verdant green spaces and historic palaces, each opening to views of the adjacent village and the Aravalli Hills beyond. Inside, the spaces keep things muted, favoring natural materials and soft tones that promote a sense of tranquility.

Life at the fort follows an unhurried rhythm: shaded verandas and cloisters offer space to linger with a book or a cup of tea, while dining draws from the luxury resort’s gardens and nearby farms to highlight regional produce with minimal fuss. The spa occupies the original women’s palace, pairing Ayurvedic therapies, meditation pavilions and tailored programs in a setting shaped by history. Beyond the fort, excursions to Ranthambore National Park ensure the surrounding landscape feels as integral to the stay as the restored walls themselves.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Staying within a reconstructed 700-year-old former royal residence means your day begins and ends amid centuries-old walls, domes and courtyards that carry an Instagram-worthy sense of place.
  • Upon arrival, you’ll be paired with a guest experience manager, a personal concierge of sorts who can do anything from book private dining under the stars to set up far-flung excursions that have you back in time for happy hour.
  • Each of the 48 oversized suites (they start at more than 750 square feet) is adorned in contemporary Rajasthani style, from intricate latticework to vibrant textiles. Modern comforts come in the form of hot tubs, outdoor showers or private plunge pools.
  • The Six Senses Spa draws on Ayurverdic traditions and modern technology (see: biohacking lounge) to create a holistic wellness experience. Of course, sunrise and sunset yoga sessions are a hallmark of the offerings here, too.
  • Six Senses’ sustainability efforts run the gamut from composting to water recycling. But the standout initiative at Fort Barwara is a rewilding project with the goal of removing invasive plant species and replanting native flora that encourages indigenous wildlife to return to the area.

The Restaurants

  • All-day dining restaurant The Cortile sets an atmospheric scene after sundown, with low lighting and live music livening up its leafy courtyard. Savor Indian specialties, many of which are made with produce from the resort’s organic garden.
  • Breakfast at The Cortile is a casually elegant affair thanks to large picture windows and breezes flowing through the aforementioned courtyard. The buffet skews Western but offers enough Indian flavor to satisfy a more local palate.
  • Perched poolside, Rani Bagh serves up flame-grilled meats, salads and other lighter bites best paired with fresh-squeezed juices and garden views.
  • The Rajawat Room is a picture-perfect spot for a cocktail, thanks to a bold black-and-white striped tile floor, velvet navy armchairs and wood-paneled walls that give the space a swanky vintage vibe.
  • With its sweeping views over the Chauth ka Barwara Mandir Temple, the aptly named Viewing Gallery is more than just a nice spot for a sunset photo. The terrace offers evening cocktails and sommelier-selected wines, so you can start your night off on a celebratory note.
