Mandarin Oriental, Santiago

A chic urban resort in Chile’s capital
VERIFIED LUXURY

Tucked slightly off the beaten path yet somehow still in the center of it all, Mandarin Oriental, Santiago offers a relaxing escape from the bustling city. The brand’s first South American property, the luxury hotel’s circular tower stands out from the crowd both for its unique architecture and lush grounds — a welcome surprise in the heart of the capital.

Enviable Santiago and Andes views can be admired from higher-floor rooms, but the most impressive sights can be found back on the ground. A sprawling lagoon pool (complete with a waterfall) and enchanting gardens give the property a resort-like feel while two delightful restaurants ensure you won’t need to travel far for refreshment. Though should you choose to venture beyond the grounds of Mandarin Oriental, Santiago, the accommodating staff is more than happy to help you plan your next adventure.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Mandarin Oriental, Santiago’s recently renovated rooms feature modern muted color palettes of light woods, mossy greens and chic grays for a more lively twist on the traditional neutral tones. Modern furnishings are at once cozy and stylish while city views are put on full display through large picture windows.
  • The luxury hotel’s resort-style pool is not to be missed. A large freeform swimming hole featuring a waterfall and surrounded by rich tropical foliage creates a gorgeous oasis you’ll want to return to day after day.
  • Enjoy a walk among shaded garden paths or rest in a comfortable armchair on the luxury hotel’s perfectly manicured lawn. Either is a spectacular way to enjoy some alfresco peace and quiet just steps from Santiago’s bustling streets.
  • Thanks to the luxury hotel’s unique architecture, the lobby is a particularly stunning spot. A glass dome allows sunlight to stream down through the tower highlighting a particularly gorgeous multi-colored glass centerpiece that anchors the expansive space.
  • At Matsuri, savor elegant Nikkei cuisine from the hands of Japanese-Peruvian chef Juan Ozaki. The extensive menu features flavorful plates like a South American spin on sushi with mashed sweet potato and cilantro and grilled octopus served with fried local potatoes and Peruvian corn.

The Restaurants

  • Enjoy elevated Italian classics in a warm wood-paneled dining room or on the breezy terrace at Senso. Risottos, fresh pasta and grilled meats are all on offer here, though we suggest ordering your steak with a side of chimichurri for a little more local flavor.
  • Afternoon tea is a Mandarin Oriental staple. At the Santiago hotel, sip it in the light-filled Atrium Lobby Lounge and nosh on scones, macarons, pastries and finger sandwiches.
  • When the weather is agreeable, be sure to enjoy a cocktail or two on the Atrium Lobby Lounge’s spacious patio. Light bites are also on offer if you’re feeling peckish before dinner.
