Located on Rio de Janeiro's Avenida Vieira Souto on the eastern end of the glamorous, sexy Ipanema Beach, Brazil’s Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro is all Italo-Brazilian sophistication with a glass exterior, a rooftop white marble pool, and a section of private beach.

Designed by Philippe Starck, the luxury boutique hotel has leather-and-wood-dominated interiors, imaginative lighting and whimsical Starckian ear-shaped mirrors in guestrooms.

Other notable design flourishes include the enormous piquiá tree stump used for the lobby’s reception desk, billowing, floor-to-ceiling curtains that divide the lobby from the hotel’s hip restaurant and bar, and an abundance of glass walls that reveal the ocean.

The crown jewel of Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro is its rooftop bar, which includes a white marble infinity-edge pool and oversized cushions where guests can sit back and enjoy caipirinhas while gazing at Sugarloaf Mountain and peaking down on those frolicking on the beaches eight floors below.

The infinity-edge, rooftop pool sets a sexy, sultry scene with beautiful people lounging about, while the hotel’s private cabana on Ipanema Beach offers free beach chairs and bottled water to guests.
Luxe amenities abound, such as the in-room fresh fruit and mineral water, butler service and a fitness center with complimentary personal trainers.
The intimate first-floor spa offers a serene respite from bustling Rio de Janeiro. Several types of massages (hot Stone, Ayurvedic, reflexology) and facials using La Prairie products are available.
Be sure to make a reservation at the stylish Fasano al Mare. Lead by restaurateur Rogério Fasano, the kitchen is run by newly appointed Florentine chef Nicola Fedeli, who explores the diverse aspects of Mediterranean cuisine with a special focus on seafood.

Located on the eighth floor, the rooftop infinity pool offers an unparalleled panoramic view of Ipanema beach from an angle that captures Arpoador, the Morro Dois Irmãos and the Corcovado.

The Rooms

All of the 79 rooms and 10 suites have large balconies (some face the ocean, while others face neighboring buildings) and feature tropical hardwood floors along with those ear-shaped mirrors and elegant Sergio Rodrigues chairs.
King-size beds are strategically positioned to face the horizon and ocean (the 10 suites have balconies overlooking Ipanema’s beach).
Other room amenities include long curtains used to separate living areas, lights made of yellow onyx, touch-lighting dimmer switches, 300-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens and flat-screen TVs.
Luxurious bathrooms offer plush bathrobes, oversized bath towels, white marble bathrooms, walk-in showers with rain-forest shower heads, complimentary flip-flops and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Restaurants

Fasano al Mare on the hotel’s ground floor is known both for its excellent Italian-Mediterranean dishes (think seared tuna with baked endive) and its Philippe Starck-designed Murano glass chandelier.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily at Fasano al Mare in the main dining area as well as the inviting terrace.
The Barreto Londra is a dark, glamorous lounge that features DJs and live music — order the enchanting Black Sea cocktail made with vodka, lemon juice, cardamom pods and squid ink.
