The Farnam, Autograph Collection celebrates Omaha’s industrial beginnings with the development of the first transcontinental railroad in 1862 but adds a contemporary design-forward spin. It was named after Henry Farnam, who was responsible for the railroad crossing through Omaha, thereby turning the river town into a commercial hub.
Housed in the former Landmark Center tower, the office-building-turned-luxury-hotel was lovingly brought to life by local couple Jason and Angie Fisher to showcase Omaha’s welcoming spirit and history. The first-time hoteliers enlisted the help of the Chicago-based Gettys Group, which transformed the mixed-use building into an Instagram-worthy homage to Omaha's industry and innovation.
Industrial-chic design (think leather furnishings, textured woods and iron and brass accents) melds with historical touches (rooms feature lantern-inspired lamps, art hanging on pulleys and side tables constructed with railroad ties) throughout. In addition to its stylish aesthetic, the boutique hotel boasts a prime address near the city’s top attractions, including the Old Market district and Henry Doorly Zoo, making it a convenient home base for exploring everything Omaha has to offer.
- Among the Omaha-specific touches found at The Farnam, Autograph Collection is a curated local art collection on display throughout the hotel. Behind the front desk, check out Notion, a colorful 10-foot abstract painting from Omaha artist Hope Dendinger.
- The Gettys Group took care to infuse the Omaha hotel with history. The front desk is made from reclaimed railroad ties and corridor carpeting features fluid patterns reminiscent of the Missouri River with streaks of goldenrod, a nod to Nebraska’s state flower.
- Omaha’s largest cocktail bar, Catalyst Urban Lounge and Terrace is a prime spot for people-watching with a craft cocktail in hand. Enticing on warm spring days, the terrace is even more alluring by night with a sleek, modern fireplace and strings of Italian lights twinkling overhead.
- With its smoky gray color palette, Dynamite Woodfire Grill is a sophisticated and stylish venue serving up modern takes on steakhouse classics. A glass-encased wine cellar holds 400 bottles that pair beautifully with the wood-fired fare.
- The most luxurious accommodation is the Billionaire Suite. Enjoy high ceilings, a kitchen and dining area, and a bathtub that fills from the ceiling.
- The historic Old Market district has cobblestone streets lined with boutiques, galleries, restaurants and bars that offer a vibrant atmosphere both day and night.
- Gene Leahy Mall at The RiverFront is a gorgeously manicured 10-acre park, complete with a sculpture garden, playground and even an amphitheater offering live music. But the best part? It’s right outside The Farnam’s front door.
- A seven-minute drive brings you to Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, a world-renowned zoo home to the world’s largest geodesic dome and a 28-acre African Grasslands exhibit.
- History buffs should head for Omaha’s Union Station to visit The Durham Museum, just a three-minute drive from The Farnam. The space offers a glimpse into the region’s history through interactive exhibits and immersive displays, making for an equally entertaining and enriching experience.
