The Peninsula New York

An elegant New York classic
VERIFIED LUXURY
Traditional New York style and understated elegance surround you at every corner of The Peninsula New York. Expect to find dramatic, oversized crystal chandeliers, marble floors and staircases, Corinthian columns and soaring high ceilings accented in various shades of beige, gold and green in the Beaux-Arts inspired building.

Simplicity is key at this graceful hotel – think clean lines and subdued colors. However, splashes of color found in the lovely flower arrangements and contemporary artwork strategically placed throughout the lobby and Gotham Lounge bring life to the space.

While the design is certainly breathtaking, the trendy hotel’s level of personalized service is what truly sets it apart from other hotels in the city.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • As it is expected from the Peninsula brand, this lavish hotel hosts superior technology. Flat-screen TVs and control panels that can adjust the temperature, lighting, television, music and outside privacy sign are only a few of the modern amenities that will leave you impressed.
  • NYC is the mecca of great food and guests of The Peninsula don’t even have to step outside to taste some of the best cuisine the city has to offer. Dining options include the hotel’s newest restaurant, Clement which uses locally sourced ingredients to serve up a fresh, contemporary American menu, the famed Peninsula Afternoon Tea at The Gotham Lounge and Salon de Ning rooftop bar and lounge.
  • With sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Fifth Avenue, the gym offers a birds-eye view of the city. Along with the gorgeous view, the fitness center also has cardio and weight-training equipment, flat-screen TVs, bamboo floors and a separate studio for classes, which range from yoga to Zumba to spinning and more.
  • The Peninsula Spa New York is one of our favorite day spas in the Big Apple, thanks to its cozy relaxation lounges with fluffy duvet-covered beds, its sumptuous locker rooms complete with a eucalyptus steam room and sauna, and, of course, a splendid range of treatments like Biologique Recherche facials provided by the most gracious and professional therapists.
  • The hotel’s 22nd-floor pool treats you to relaxing chaise lounges and a sweeping view of Fifth Avenue. In the summer, there’s a sun deck — one of the few offered at Manhattan hotels — so if you’re traveling during the warmer months, be sure to set aside time for swimming and sunning.
Things to Know
  • This charming hotel is located in Midtown Manhattan, so the best views aren’t necessarily on the higher floors. We love the Fifth Avenue views on the lower floors in Grand Luxe rooms, where you can watch the quintessential hustle and bustle of shoppers on the street.
  • This kid-friendly hotel has numerous activities for children, such as fun tours of New York or an interactive culinary class with the hotel’s pastry chef. The restaurants even serve food tailored toward a youngster’s palate, from the junior tea service in the Gotham Lounge, where little ones can snack on sandwiches, cupcakes and hot cocoa, to the room service which offers mac and cheese, corn-flake-crusted brioche French toast and mocktails like the Spider Man — ginger ale, cranberry and orange juices with a chocolate and cherry net sprawled over the glass.
  • If you book a suite, you’ll also get access to one of the Peninsula’s chauffeured Mini Cooper S Clubman cars, an amenity that’s unique to the Five-Star hotel. Whether you want to sightsee, shop or hit a museum, these chic little cars will make navigating New York’s streets a breeze.
  • The hotel will gift you with a night in the bridal suite if you order the wedding package. For honeymooners, the Fifth Avenue hotel refurnishes its grand suite with romantic décor, as well as rose petals scattered on the bed, chilled champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.
  • When you get daily turndown service, the blackout curtains are closed and the lighting is adjusted to create a warm and inviting ambience in your room. Stray clothing is folded and put away, while fresh ice is set in the silver tray on top of the minibar and additional luxury bathroom amenities are provided — including an ESPA gentle deep-cleansing balm to help you relax before bed.
The Rooms
  • There are a multitude of lodging choices: 239 rooms in all, including 54 suites, spread out over 22 floors. You’ll be able to choose from three types of rooms: superior, which is the standard option, deluxe, which is more spacious and provides a dedicated work area if you’re traveling on business and grand luxe, which is the roomiest of the three.
  • The cozy superior rooms — the standard level at this luxury hotel — are dressed in classic neutral tones and provide a view of the courtyard. The deluxe rooms are larger and have a dedicated work desk with a silent fax machine and universal power adapter outlets, an ideal choice if you need to get some work done.
  • If you want to go beyond the traditional room, check into one of the luxury hotel’s sumptuous suites.
  • Outfitted in white marble with black granite countertops, bathrooms feature a relaxing deep-soaking tub, separate shower and separate toilet.
  • The most extravagant accommodation is the Peninsula Suite penthouse, which measures in at a whopping 3,300 square feet and is perched on top of the New York hotel. It features two bedrooms, a living room and dining room, a grand piano, a library, a Jacuzzi, a guest powder room and, if you really need more space, an optional third bedroom.
Nearby Attractions
  • This convenient hotel is about a mile from Manhattan’s world-famous Broadway theater district near Times Square, where you can watch a Tony Award-winning play or enjoy a lesser-known, but equally enjoyable, off-Broadway show. Classics and new shows sell out quickly, so be sure to book your tickets well in advance — something the hotel concierge can help you do.
  • A block from the Five-Star hotel is superior shopping boutiques and department stores like Giorgio Armani and Escada and about three blocks away there’s Bergdorf Goodman, Louis Vuitton, Yves St. Laurent, Burberry and Miu Miu. The flagship Saks Fifth Avenue is about six blocks from the hotel and Bloomingdale’s is about seven blocks away.
  • No matter what time of year you visit New York, you’ll want to see Central Park, the city’s largest outdoor green space. Kids will love the park’s 20 playgrounds, zoo, horse-drawn carriage rides and carousel, while you can enjoy ice skating in the winter, or concerts, films and plays in the summer.
  • Art buffs will appreciate being near the famous Museum Mile — which includes the preeminent collections of classical, contemporary and modern art — starts right near the hotel with the Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA, as locals call it. Take a quick five-minute walk or borrow the complimentary car to check out other nearby treasures, including the Guggenheim Museum and the American Museum of Natural History.
  • If you want to see a classical music performance, dance, opera or philharmonic show, you’re in luck. The luxury hotel sits less than half a mile from the legendary Carnegie Hall and just more than a mile from the world-renowned Lincoln Center, home to the New York City Ballet and Metropolitan Opera.
