Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa

Conscious luxury and inspired design
VERIFIED LUXURY

With trailblazing environmental features and inspirational design, Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa injects some genuine wow factor into the Maldives’ fiercely competitive luxury sector.

From its inception, the hotel has made it a priority to limit its ecological impact on the pristine island and nearby reef. Design and construction were overseen by EarthCheck (an environmental certification and benchmarking program for the travel and tourism industry) and care was taken to avoid cutting any channels into the house reef for boat access. Scuba divers even hand-positioned the stilts supporting the water villas so that the coral wouldn’t be damaged.

Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa now holds EarthCheck gold status and is rigorously audited by Green Globe, which indicates it’s doing more than just paying lip service to an environmental ethos. Strategies include rainwater harvesting, using ocean water to cool AC units and utilizing excess heat from generators to warm water for showers.

Aside from the eco efforts, the Maldives resort also stands out with its unique architecture and location. The house reef drop-off is just 32 to 50 feet from the overwater villas and there’s also a steep slope leading into the blue, giving fast and easy access for snorkelers and divers to local marine life.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The design by Singaporean Chan Soo Khian of SCDA Architects delights with contemporary tropical architecture. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa is one of the most distinctive resorts in the country in terms of appearance.
  • As you roam around, straight lines continually draw your eyes toward water, be it the ocean, the vast 144-foot freshwater pool or the waterfalls. The Bauhaus technique of framing fantastic views but not detracting from them balances and softens the huge scale of the buildings in public areas.
  • The Dhoni reception is one of the most impressive visual features of the luxury hotel and the first thing you see when you arrive. Crafted by local boat builders, the entire roof of this magnificent structure is shaped like an enormous upturned dhoni (fishing boat).
  • Salvaged tsunami wood that floated over from southeast Asia was used in the property's construction, along with local coconut wood and thatch. The indoor/outdoor areas appear to blend into one, capturing the Maldivian sense of space, where there are no boundaries between the infinite sea and sky.
  • Huvadhoo Atoll is the largest and deepest (279 feet) atoll in the Maldives and one of the deepest in the world. Due to its depth and geographical isolation, its channels attract gray reef sharks, oceanic black tips and whale sharks, which makes diving here even more thrilling than in other atolls.

Things to Know

  • Transportation to the all-villa Maldives hotel requires a one-hour domestic flight from Male followed by a 30-minute speedboat ride. The advantage of this is domestic flights can operate day and night whereas seaplanes are limited to daylight hours only.
  • The property's remote location guarantees seclusion — you won’t see Male on the horizon, commercial vessels, low-flying international carriers and the like.
  • The smaller pool by the spa is often empty, which may be of interest to those staying in a Park Villa or Park Water Villa, which do not come with private pools.
  • Although everybody on the island speaks English, the local population uses Huvadhoo Bas, a dialect of the Maldivian language that incorporates some old Sinhala (Sri Lanka’s official language). The islanders are acclaimed for making the finest quality traditional reed mats in the country.

The Rooms

  • With only 50 timber and stone villas, Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa provides an intimate atmosphere that might just feel like your own private island escape.
  • Each villa features floor-to-ceiling windows that create a sense of bringing the outside into the room and making the views part of the design.
  • The natural environment surrounding the rooms blends seamlessly into the contemporary minimalist décor thanks to the use of natural colors and materials like seagrass and polished coconut wood.
  • All of the technology is integrated — the entertainment system, compendium and electronic blinds are all controlled via iPad.

The Restaurants

  • The Dining Room is a vast semi-open-air structure unfurling to one side of the main freshwater infinity pool. This international and regional restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with outstanding panoramas of the pool and the ocean beyond.
  • Local cuisine is marked on menus with a small palm tree icon, such as the mildly spiced kukulhu chicken curry with coconut and pandan, accompanied by traditional roshi (flatbread) and fluffy steamed rice.
  • The Island Grill is on the beach for a toes-in-the-sand dining experience. The seafood and premium meats are cooked on a traditional grill or in the wood-burning oven.
  • Don’t miss The Island Grill favorites like pan-roasted local yellowfin tuna with green pea hummus or the kiru boakiba (Maldivian rice cake with caramelized coconut and ginger ice cream).
