The Berkeley

London's fashion-forward find
VERIFIED LUXURY
The fashion-forward set has long been calling The Berkeley their home away from home, and not just because of the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel’s proximity to Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Sloane Street designer shops.

The stunning property excels at everything you’d expect but it turns the everyday into the extraordinary – from cutting-edge architecture to intuitive service and indulgent rooms.

The boutique hotel is also renowned for its unique spin on afternoon tea, known as Cedric Grolet Goutea. Inspired by the themes and colors of the couture fashion world, it offers cookies shaped like Manolo Blahnik shoes and cakes resembling Yves Saint Laurent accessories.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  •  The Berkeley added a fun twist on the traditional afternoon tea with the Cedric Grolet Goutea. Changing every six months, the spring/summer and fall/winter menus draw on the season’s catwalk collections, with standout designer pieces reimagined through intricately decorated, colorful cakes, mousses and biscuits.
  • Get a cocktail in the stylish Blue Bar, a distinctive space bathed in a cornflower hue with a white onyx bar and black-crocodile-print leather flooring. It’s been a haunt for the likes of Madonna, Stephen Jones, Naomi Campbell and Jade Jagger.
  • For another atmospheric setting, try The Berkeley Bar & Terrace’s Snug, a petite room that’s drenched in muted pinks, including a wraparound mural. A photo here will make your Instagram feed pop.
  • The fourth-floor Surrenne spa is an oasis of calm that centers itself around natural organic treatments.
  • Get a taste of modern British cuisine at Marcus, a fine-dining restaurant from chef Marcus Wareing.

Things to Know
  • Innovative design and a contemporary palette make each room feel soothing yet style conscious, with views across Hyde Park, Belgravia and beyond.
  • Taking things up a notch, each suite has its own original character – the hallmark of boundary-pushing designers John Heah, Robert Angell, Helen Green and André Fu.
The Rooms
  • Accommodations are finished to impeccable standard. Carefully curated welcome amenities await you in the rooms, including house-made sweet treats, champagne and the ingredients to whip up a cocktail.
  • All rooms come with organic toiletries, a choice of two robes (light and thick pile) and glossy coffee table tomes provided by Taschen; all newly renovated accommodations are fitted with Toto toilets.
  • Many of the front-facing rooms and suites feature spacious terraces and balconies to take in the sights, which stretch as far as The Shard.
  • Children also get the star treatment, with little robes, slippers and balloons.
The Restaurants

  • Marcus is helmed by Marcus Wareing, the British chef-turned-judge for BBC series MasterChef: The Professionals. This first solo venture serves up a contemporary twist on classics through three-, four- or five-course tasting menus and a lunchtime à la carte option tweaked to champion the ingredients of the season.
  • Light bounces off every surface in La Môme, making this a bright, airy, relaxed spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner – and drinks in between.
  • Stop by the vibrant Blue Bar for light bites, a glass of wine or some whiskey from the bar's impressive collection. Drop in between 5 and 7:30 p.m. daily for Mar-Tea-Ni, a twist on the afternoon tea tradition that features scones, lollypops and miniature martinis. Soak it all up in the signature Lutyens Blue surroundings or relax in the state-of-the-art glass pavilion.
  • With carved plasterwork, coral tones, wooden accents and vintage champagne, every evening at The Berkeley Bar and Terrace tells a tale.
