Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park, London

Bold glamour in London's Knightsbridge
VERIFIED LUXURY
London is renowned for its time-honored luxury hotels, and the Edwardian masterpiece that houses Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London is no exception.

Situated at the heart of the super-elite Knightsbridge district, bordered by Harrods, Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace, this one-time Victorian Gentleman’s Club now comprises 181 of the most luxurious rooms and suites in the city, two swishy restaurants, and a lavish spa.

Following a 2018 fire, the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star retreat briefly shuttered its doors, but the grande dame property used it as an opportunity to embark on the most extensive renovation of the hotel’s 117-year history.

In spring 2019, it reopened with reimagined guest rooms and suites. Noted designer Joyce Wang took inspiration in the luxury hotel’s Hyde Park surroundings and the early 20th century’s golden age of travel. Be sure to check out the Mandarin Oriental Penthouse, a new three-bedroom, three-bathroom space with its own dining room, two kitchens and park vistas. It ranks as one of the British capital's largest suites.

This London hotel has the high-end heritage and fine character to ensure it will remain one of the city’s favorite retreats for years to come.

  • The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London offers not only a wonderful experience with any of the traditional treatments offered in the spa’s brochure, but a tailor-made session can be created for your needs that particular day.

  • As for the timeless and elegant property, each suite has a distinct, individual character, dressed in immaculate style, allowing each stay to be an entirely different experience.
Things to Know
  • The dress code at the luxury hotel is trendy upscale. That’s especially true in Mandarin Bar.
  • The fitness center is discreetly hidden on the floor with the spa. Spa attendants are happy to assist you in locating it if you go during operating hours; otherwise, ask the concierge to escort you.
  • There’s a private entrance reserved just for royal guests--and a few lucky newlyweds. If you’d like a peek, ask concierge staff to show it to you.
  • The Royal Horse Guards pass by the property on their way to Buckingham Palace each morning. If you have a north facing room, you can see them right from your window; if not, make your way outside to watch from the sidewalk or ask for a window seat at the London hotel’s Dinner By Heston Blumenthal at breakfast.
The Rooms
  • There are three different types of regular rooms and several styles of suites to choose from, all of which are intimate and offer various views of the city. Each posh guest room is awarded a distinctive flair, so no two rooms are alike.
  • The most basic accommodation is the Courtyard Room, which features plush cream furnishings, marble bathrooms and beautiful views over the inner courtyard (which makes them pretty quiet).
  • Suites include the extra luxurious Knightsbridge Turret Suite, which has sumptuous sofas, leather-topped desks and elegant artwork to give the impression of a private apartment.
  • The Royal Suite includes a wealth of indulgent features such as a living room with private bar and fireplace, a dining room and kitchen with crystal chandelier, a long balcony with views across Hyde Park, original 18th century Chinese paintings, and a private butler service.
  • The spacious bathrooms feature either Edwardian or Victorian furnishings and have large bathtubs and compact vanity areas. Indulge in bathroom amenities by Ormonde Jayne, turn on the heated towel rail, wrap yourself in a plush terry bathrobe, and you’ll feel like you just came from the spa.
The Restaurants
  • Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park, London’s flagship restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal has only been open since 2011, yet it has set the culinary world abuzz with a menu that celebrates British culinary heritage.
  • Focusing on dishes inspired by Britain’s historic gastronomic past, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal features a menu with recipes dating as far back as the 16th century. Adapted for the modern palate, these dishes include forgotten classics such as spiced pigeon with ale and artichokes and tipsy cake made with spit roast pineapple.
  • The hotel is also home to The Aubrey London, a quirky izakaya with two bar experiences, including the city’s first omakase cocktail bar.
  • Mandarin Bar offers a chic and contemporary space that serves up Asian-inspired bar snacks such as smoked salmon naan and crispy dim sum to complement its fine wines and cocktails.
