InterContinental Lisbon

Sweeping city views in Lisbon
VERIFIED LUXURY
InterContinental Lisbon is a sophisticated, contemporary hotel built on one of Lisbon’s seven hills. It boasts sweeping views over the entire city.

In October 2014, it became part of the IHG Group and was recently refurbished and restyled as part of that transition. With its plum, silver and gold accents, it has an up-to-date vibe and a relaxed but luxurious setting.

The unusual glass-fronted octagonal lobby area, with its own traditional Lisbon café at the back, immediately sets the scene with its contemporary amethyst and beige velvet chairs and sofas providing somewhere to kick back and enjoy a traditional Portuguese coffee and cake.

This is somewhere where you can unwind, but have everything you need at close hand.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • InterContinental Lisbon’s Akla Restaurant and Bar opened in 2016. It’s welcoming, cozy and approachable. Chef Eddy Melo’s menu focuses on sharing plates and traditional Portuguese flavors.
  • Evenings are a good time to head for the funky Uptown Bar with its highly trained mixologists, who can stir up any drink you desire. Try something with gin, as the bar keeps a huge collection of the spirit. In the early hours, the bar takes on a nightclub feel.
  • Breathtaking views of the city from the majority of rooms look out over the nearby Eduardo VII Park and Lisbon’s mosaic of terracotta rooftops.
Things to Know
  • Book a Club InterContinental room and get exclusive access to a quiet reserved lounge area and complimentary breakfast. This is especially useful when the hotel holds conferences and events as overnight guests have a private getaway from any bustle.
  • The Lisbon hotel has no pool, but there’s a 24-hour gym on the premises and guests receive special rates to Clube VII, a health club with an indoor swimming pool just across the street in Eduardo VII Park.
  • The concierge can book a private limo service for a tour around Lisbon, with a friendly local driver giving the lowdown on all the best places to visit and get a good meal.
The Rooms
  • Classic and Executive Rooms are decorated in pale, relaxing tones. The higher up the building you go, the better the views.
  • The rooms have been recently renovated and average about 640 to 690 square feet. All have huge padded headboards, wall-to-wall windows and sumptuous marble bathrooms with walk-in shower and separate tub.
  • Some suites are duplexes. This uncommon layout is a good option for a longer stay, as it feels more akin to an apartment than a hotel room when you get to walk upstairs to bed.
  • Family suites have separate bedrooms with a single lockable door connected to the common areas, giving parents private space, but peace of mind that junior is safe and sound in bed.
Nearby Attractions
  • Eduardo VII Park is great for quiet strolls in the spring, when the jacaranda blossoms are in full and splendorous bloom and in summer, when the trees take the sting out of the sweltering sun.
  • Estufa Fria, a semi-secluded botanical garden, is located two minutes from the luxury hotel. It’s a lovely place to relax among a collection of hundreds of plants from across the world, interspersed with waterfalls, streams and marble statues.
  • New jogging and cycling routes now snake across Lisbon, and most are accessible from Eduardo VII Park. Hotel reception can provide information about bicycle rentals.
