Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Beau-Rivage Palace’s 168 rooms masterfully toe the line between elegant and comforting. Cozy quilts, matching wallpaper you’d find in a 19th-century manor and dangling chandeliers add classical charm, while contemporary tones of gray, robin’s egg blue and minty green soften the overall appearance.
  • Take your time perusing the Lausanne hotel’s wall of fame, where signed photos of famous past (and present) guests are prominently hung. Some notables include singers Diana Ross and Elton John, actors Bruce Willis and Charlie Chaplin, soccer behemoth Christiano Ronaldo and statesmen like Nelson Mandela.
  • The Swiss resort’s stunning 10-acre grounds get a whimsical twist with larger-than-life fruit and animal sculptures by Brazilian ceramic artist Lisa Pappon. Enjoy afternoon tea on the alfresco patio while gazing out at rolling green hills dotted with a giant apple, lemon and pear.
  • Tucked among Beau-Rivage Palace’s lake-view grounds are gorgeous amenities like multi-tiered gardens, a tennis court and a heated outdoor pool that’s perfect for a dip when the Swiss forecast warms up.
  • The 16,000-square-foot Guerlain Spa is a haven of relaxation, equipped with everything you could possibly need to unwind. Guerlain-developed treatments, hammams, saunas, an ice cellar and fountain and a heated indoor-outdoor pool all center around a “Tree of Life” sculpture on the spa’s patio that sets the scene for serenity.

The Restaurants

  • The eponymous restaurant, helmed by highly decorated chef Anne-Sophie Pic, serves elevated Swiss staples with a French twist. Tristan Auer-designed interiors complement the cuisine with a comforting yet elegant dining room overlooking Lake Geneva.
  • Brasserie-inspired Cafe Beau-Rivage is a casually elegant spot with standout garden views. The seasonally changing lunch and dinner menus showcase Alpine cuisine with an elevated spin — think rock fish soup with saffron mayonnaise or roasted deer fillet with braised red cabbage.
  • For Japanese cuisine and a well-curated collection of sake, book a table at Kaigan. Pony up to the sushi bar for exquisitely prepared fish or grab a seat at the teppanyaki for flame-grilled fare served with dramatic flair.
  • Breakfast is served daily in the breezy La Terrasse. Dine alfresco to soak up lake views and sunshine while enjoying ultra-fresh pastries, fruits, cheeses and more.
  • During the summer months, try fresh salads, ceviche and grilled mains poolside at Ô Terrasse. And no matter which season you visit, you can head to the vintage-inspired Bar for a pre-dinner cocktail in the comfort of a rich velvet wing-backed chair.
