Halcyon, a hotel in Cherry Creek Denver

A playful Denver boutique stay
VERIFIED LUXURY
Named after the mythical bird said to bring calm seas and peaceful days, Halcyon, a hotel in Cherry Creek, exudes a carefree, easygoing spirit. In an area known for its polished atmosphere, the property offers a refreshingly unconventional approach to luxury with a nostalgic, whimsical aesthetic, where clean-lined interiors are punctuated by quirky touches such as in-room vinyl record players.

That cheerful approach continues through the guest experience. Borrow a cruiser bike or longboard from the “Gear Garage,” grab a complimentary latte from the lobby barista station, or take advantage of complimentary guest passes to nearby yoga, barre and cycling studios. The buzzy rooftop pool and bar provide a lively perch above Cherry Creek — not to mention excellent Rocky Mountain views — while one of Denver's top Italian restaurants adds another compelling reason to visit.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The Denver hotel’s 154 guest rooms and 11 suites feature a clean, mid-century modern aesthetic with warm woods, white subway tiled bathrooms and vintages touches like record players. Built on the site of a former post office, the property also pays subtle tribute to its history through details like leather mail pouches beside each door — where the weekly events guide is delivered — and brass room numbers mounted like old postal plaques.
  • The rooftop pool deck is one of Halcyon's biggest draws, pairing a heated pool, hot tub and panoramic views of the Denver skyline and Rocky Mountains. For an even more elevated experience, reserve one of the private cabanas, where sectional lounges, HDTVs and a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine await.
  • Denver embraces the outdoors year-round, and the hotel’s Gear Garage makes it easy to join in. Borrow everything from cruiser bikes and longboards in summer to snowshoes and sleds in winter, as well as pickleball paddles, board games and lawn games. It’s also where you'll find vinyl records for your in-room player, while Italian scooters are available for guests wanting to zip around Cherry Creek in style.
  • For drinks with a view, head to Rare Bird on the rooftop. Alongside impressive city vistas, you'll find a seasonal craft cocktail program and a wood-fired menu of crisp pizzas, smoked wings and other shareable bites. Down at street level, Quality Italian serves modern Italian-American fare with a focus on premium steaks, fresh seafood and housemade pastas, complemented by an extensive wine list that has earned it a loyal local following.
  • For something a little more clandestine, seek out Halcyon’s speakeasy B&GC. Follow the alleyway beside to the hotel to the unassuming entrance marked “Stair 3” before descending into a moody subterranean bar. Inspired by the optimism of post-World War II America, the space showcases warm woods, cognac leather and expertly crafted cocktails that evoke the glamour of the era.

Things to Know

  • While the hotel’s 24-hour fitness center is well equipped, it's worth taking advantage of Halcyon’s complimentary Wellness Passport. The program gives guests access to some of Cherry Creek’s best fitness studios, from yoga and Pilates to cycling classes, making it easy to keep up your workouts while exploring the neighborhood.
  • One of Halcyon’s most popular rituals is its daily Social Hour. From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., guests can collect drink tokens from the lobby before making their way to the hotel’s Local Jones bistro for a complimentary beer or house wine.
  • Halcyon bundles many of its signature experiences into a daily destination amenity fee, so be sure to make use of perks like unlimited barista-made coffee, the Gear Garage, rooftop pool, a courtesy car for use within three miles, and day passes to the Denver Botanic Gardens.
  • Dogs weighing up to 70 pounds are welcome at Halcyon for an additional pet fee. The dog-friendly perks extend beyond the guest rooms, too: from June to October, rooftop bar Rare Bird hosts its monthly “Bird Dog” social, where pups and their owners gather over peanut butter treats, puppy poke bowls and other canine-friendly snacks.
  • The luxury hotel is home to more than 750 pieces of local art, from large-scale murals and sculptures to paintings, photography and ceramics, creating a gallery-like experience that celebrates Colorado’s creative community.
