Including room rate, taxes and mandatory resort fees
What does ""We Paid"" mean?
Forbes Travel Guide performs independent, incognito inspections of all hotels we rate. This is what we paid when we stayed at this hotel.
Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.
When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.
We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.
We are the only independent, global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, spas and ocean cruise ships.
Here are five things to know about us:
1. We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
2. We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
3. Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
4. While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience at a hotel, restaurant or spa goes beyond looks — how it makes you feel is what you will remember most.
5. We started in1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.
Five-Star These properties deliver an outstanding experience and consistently offer a highly customized level of service.
Four-Star These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match.
Recommended These are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities.
Soon To Be Rated As our highly trained, incognito inspectors work to assess properties, our editors check them out ahead of time and provide a sneak preview of what to expect.
Set on the serene shores of Maslinica Bay on Croatia’s glamorous Hvar Island, Maslina Resort brings a refined, wellness-driven approach to Adriatic luxury. The seasonal waterfront retreat — typically operating from May to October — is surrounded by fragrant pine forests yet remains within walking distance of the enchanting UNESCO‑listed town of Stari Grad. From terraced gardens to private coves to sweeping sea views, Maslina Resort feels worlds away from the island’s busier enclaves.
The resort’s 53 accommodations — ranging from elegant sea‑view rooms to expansive villas with private plunge pools — balance a sense of organic minimalism with subtle Croatian influences. At Terra Restaurant, Mediterranean flavors take center stage with a strong emphasis on local ingredients and seasonal produce. Meanwhile, Pharomatiq Wellness leans into Hvar’s restorative reputation with holistic treatments, native herbs and a sense of coastal calm. Lush gardens, two heated outdoor pools and a quiet stretch of shoreline invite slow mornings and starlit evenings by the Adriatic.

Our Inspector's Highlights
Unlike many Adriatic beach clubs where loungers bake in the sun, Maslina’s private beach features canopied lounge chairs and native Aleppo pines offering shade. Spend the afternoon reading, napping or swimming in clear turquoise water or simply unwind before sunset cocktails overlooking the bay.
Pharomatiq Wellness takes a holistic approach to well-being, incorporating elements of functional medicine alongside traditional therapies. You can simply book “time” with a therapist for a fully tailored experience, or browse the comprehensive menu, which spans sound healing, biomarker assessments, reflexology, Ayurvedic massage and Biologique Recherche facials. On clear days, outdoor yoga, boxing and stand-up paddleboarding sessions provide a memorable way to connect with Hvar’s incredible scenery.
An internal buggy service quietly ferries guests between hillside terraces, restaurants and the waterfront. Prefer to walk? A wooden boardwalk winds through Mediterranean vegetation, offering peaceful moments and scenic viewpoints throughout the property.
Maslina’s organic garden is more than a visual focal point. The Croatia resort’s chefs harvest herbs and vegetables daily, meaning the ingredients featured in dishes such as grilled striploin or cured amberjack may have been plucked moments before.
A gift to families traveling with children, The Playroom is particularly enchanting. Young explorers will find a climbing wall, board games, books on local art and culture, and curated activities organized by the resort team.
The Rooms
Across all 53 rooms and suites at the luxury hotel, interiors feel minimalist yet warm thanks to an abundance of wood and nods to Croatia throughout. Materials such as Brač stone — quarried from a neighboring island — terra cotta and brushed brass create an inviting, tactile connection to Hvar’s cultural and architectural heritage.
Organic cotton linens, spacious bathrooms with dual stone vanities, walk‑in showers and deep-soak tubs come standard. Meanwhile, indoor and outdoor sitting areas create a relaxed, residential feel.
Garden Rooms open onto private loggias framed by native greenery, while Panoramic Rooms feature spacious terraces overlooking Maslinica Bay. Starting from approximately 450 square feet, both provide a serene retreat immersed in the island's natural beauty.
In the aptly named Pool Suites, heated plunge pools overlook the Adriatic from expansive sun-kissed terraces — perfect for enjoying morning coffee or an evening glass of rosé while watching the light shift across the bay.
For families and groups seeking extra space and privacy, The Villas offer the most generous floor plans. In the Villa Uvala, for instance, you’ll find five separate bedrooms, as well as a sprawling sea view terrace, a private infinity pool, extensive living and dining areas, a gym and a Finnish sauna.
