The Siam, Bangkok

A luxe art deco Bangkok escape
VERIFIED LUXURY
Flaunting a hip sensibility and vintage style completely unique to Bangkok, The Siam Hotel is an intimate 38-room luxury boutique hotel. No two suites or pool villas at this trendsetting hotel are alike, with each individually furnished around one specific theme and outfitted with artwork, antiques and other decorative pieces largely sourced by creative director, co-owner and local Thai celebrity Krissada Sukosol-Clapp.

The Siam is home to two of Bangkok’s hottest restaurants, the authentic riverside Thai eatery Chon and The Story House and Bar featuring contemporary comfort food with modern flavors adjacent to the hotel’s entrance courtyard. But you'll also find unusual amenities like a vinyl room, a tattoo studio, a muay Thai boxing ring and other surprises.

The Siam is in Bangkok’s cultural Dusit district on three acres of land along the Chao Phraya River. Reflecting its independent style and contemporary design, this luxury Bangkok hot spot is the only hotel of this elite class situated in this area of town.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Far from your average everyday luxury hotel, The Siam is a funky, upscale boutique property. Together with a team of designers and co-owners that include family members and award-winning architect Bill Bensley, Sukosol-Clapp has created a truly unique Bangkok luxury hotel.
  • There is an inspiring range of somewhat uncommon facilities and activities offered onsite, including daily Thai cooking classes at Chon Thai Restaurant, muay Thai boxing training programs at a fully equipped fitness center and movie screenings at a cozy 430-square-foot theater.
  • Be sure to check out and the library supplied with rare books on Thai history from Sukosol-Clapp’s private collection.
  • The Siam is practically an exhibition gallery of Thai antiquities, from decades-old black-and-white photographs framed here and there to Art Deco appointments, ornate wood carvings and original artwork.
  • Other design cues at The Siam are taken from Musée d’Orsay in Paris, from a gorgeous lobby atrium to a mild color palette of creams and silver, while mixed natural materials are incorporated throughout the hotel’s grounds, suites and signature restaurants.
Things to Know
  • Decorated with an eclectic menagerie of antiques, vintage furnishings and one-of-a-kind knickknacks largely sourced by The Siam’s Thai celebrity co-owner and creative director, the hotel has a decidedly contemporary design style in a class of its own.
  • Given their popularity, advance reservations are required at both Chon Thai Restaurant and The Story House. Chon is a beautiful space (50-seat capacity) located within historic Thai-style teak houses where you can tantalize your taste buds with authentic local dishes that range from savory to out-of-this-world spicy.
  • The Siam’s private boat can zip you down the river to Saphan Taksin Bridge, where you can board the BTS Skytrain or an express ferry bound for famous sights such as Wat Pho, the Grand Palace and Wat Arun.
The Rooms
  • A common thread for all of The Siam’s gorgeous rooms is a carefully curated design with nods, again, to that throwback Thai-style Art Deco, not to mention luxe modern amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions, walk-in showers and, of course, the services of a personal butler.
  • Each of its 28 suites, located in The Siam’s main building, and 10 private pool villas have their own individual theme and décor. All accommodations at The Siam are designed with maximum comfort, with common amenities such as plush king-size beds and a freestanding bathtub with a separate walk-in shower.
