Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam

Golden Age grandeur in Amsterdam
VERIFIED LUXURY
Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam enjoys an exclusive address on the city’s historic Canal Ring. Located just steps away from the Golden Bend, a stretch of the most prestigious properties in Amsterdam, the hotel spans six adjoined 17th-century mansions. As such, the buildings are steeped in history and retain the intimacy of stepping into a luxurious family home.

The heritage of these illustrious properties has been thoughtfully preserved, allowing you to experience Amsterdam at its grandest. As you move throughout the hotel, plaques inform you about the influential families who’ve resided there, dividing lines separate one house from the next and original features offer a sense of the hotel’s fascinating history.

On top of its background, the stunning hotel lavishes you with amenities, including a serene Guerlain Spa, an indoor pool, one of the city’s top restaurants (the renowned Spectrum) and your very own personal concierge.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • If the palatial entranceway and carved staircase feel reminiscent of Versailles, that’s because it was designed by Daniel Marot, whose résumé includes assisting Jean Bérain (Louis XIV’s designer).
  • A dimly lit speakeasy-style cocktail bar is housed in the original vault of the MeesPierson bank.
  • You will be invited to choose a scent for your room from a selection by luxury fragrance house Cire Trudon (Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette’s preferred candlemaker).
  • The Amsterdam hotel showcases modern Dutch design in creative ways, such as calling upon local couturier Jan Taminiau to design the staff uniforms.
  • At the end of a softly lit, heavenly scented passageway, Guerlain Spa’s three treatment rooms await. Try the signature Fusion Experience that combines warm oil and ice bubbles in a revitalizing massage.
Things to Know
  • There’s no lobby. Enjoy the luxury of being greeted at the door as you would be upon entering a family home, with a reception room on the right and the concierge on the left.
  • Rooms overlook the vibrant Herengracht canal or the spacious courtyard — which happens to be the largest private garden in Amsterdam.
  • Peacock Alley restaurant and lounge is a homage to the corridor that connected the original Waldorf and Astoria hotels in New York. This exquisite space, decorated in Vermeer’s blue color palette, is used for afternoon tea and all-day dining.
The Rooms
  • The décor in each room is understated and elegant, with gray and beige tones inspiring a peaceful ambiance.
  • Classical wall panels and antique gilt mirrors aside, the rooms are equipped with high-end entertainment systems, 42-inch televisions and espresso machines.
  • Each of the spacious bathrooms features double sinks, Salvatore Ferragamo products and mounted TVs.
  • For the ultimate indulgence, book your stay in the Van Loon Suite. This 1,087-square-foot space boasts a private spa and pool entrance, a 17th-century spiral staircase and sweeping views of both the city and the courtyard.
The Restaurants
  • Helmed by chef Sidney Schutte, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam's acclaimed fine-dining restaurant Spectrum churns out picture-perfect plates in an 11-course, wine-paired menu; a vegetarian option is also on offer.
  • Private dining is available in the spectacular Maurer Room, decorated in Rococo style and filled with 18th-century artworks.
  • The luxury hotel serves all-day tea and coffee service the stylish Peacock Alley. There's an eye-catching assortment of delicate sweets laid out on the marble table in the center of the room.
