Hong Kong's stylish south side spot
432 Rooms / 17 Suites
L'hotel Island South is a stylish, friendly alternative to the hotel hubs of Central and Tsim Sha Tsui, offering a bit of quiet without sacrificing convenience.
Of course, in Hong Kong, quiet is a relative term. Located on the south side of Hong Kong, on the edge of Aberdeen — almost a city unto itself — the hotel has a view of typical local high-rises: the Aberdeen Marina, Ocean Park theme park and the South China Sea on one side and, on the other, a glimpse of the verdant hills that form the spine of the island.
It’s a modern, airy hotel full of clean lines and natural hues that evoke the earth, sea and sky. The 432 rooms and 17 suites are decorated in shades of gray, blue and ivory, with warm terra cotta accents here and there. Different types of wood are used throughout. Amenities include a light-filled two-story gym and an outdoor pool, both of which look onto nothing but green. All-day dining is available at Lis Café, with an abundant buffet of Eastern and Western dishes, including loads of fresh seafood. The spread offers stir-fried dishes, sashimi, pasta, salads, black mussels with spicy tomato salsa, salmon donburi (rice bowls) and strawberry Paris-Brest for dessert. The adjacent Bar Lis is the place for a cocktail (try the Island South Breeze, made with water chestnut, vodka, sake, blue Curaçao and pineapple), and the lobby-level Lis Lounge provides business services (printing, scanning, photocopying and courier delivery). Digital and human concierges can help you find your way to the best dining and shopping in the area.
This is a fine choice for families with children. Ocean Park, a popular theme park, is within sight of the luxury hotel, as are other south side attractions. Stanley with its waterfront promenade and Shek O with its beach town vibe are an easy cab ride away. And Aberdeen is known for its scenic harbor and seafood places, including the famous Jumbo Floating Restaurant. But Hong Kong’s busier side remains easily accessible, too, either by taxi or the complimentary hotel shuttle that runs all day.
